| Killeroo joins Local Act Comics group |
[Sep. 19th, 2008|08:10 am] |

My meeting last night was with Dave Cunning of Local Act Comics, who have published more comics in the last couple of years than any other local publisher since Cyclone in the 80s and 90s.
At this stage it looks like I'll be working specifically with Dave on an ongoing story, possibly also including Tristan Jones in the writing process with Dave pencilling and me inking. At this stage we're aiming for a graphic novel size book of 100 pages or so, and possibly more after that.
This also opens up some additional potential publishing opportunities through Local Act, for projects like my long-played-with idea of a Gallery book, collecting all the great pinups submitted over the years, and possibly other Killeroo one-shots, perhaps collecting Jacen Carpenter's Monstar webcomic story arc featuring Killeroo, or other short stories.
Dave sees a lot of potential in the character and its refreshing to see this kind of enthusiasm backed up by hard work and real publishing know-how. He also shares my views on production values and quality which is an essential.
Still early days in the planning stages at this point, but I'm hopeful this could be a real renaissance for the character and really get a wealth of development of the character and a serious number of pages behind him in the next few years.
Yay Killeroo! lol
For more info on Local Act Comics, click here to visit the website, which includes an online store that will soon stock the first two Killeroo books as well. |

| Home sweet home! |
[Sep. 11th, 2008|11:46 am] |
I just got unconditional approval from the bank. This was the last remaining obstacle in order to start building this:

The builder will start in October and come late January next year, I’ll be moving in!
So if you’ve been wondering what’s going on with the new Killeroo book, this is what has been taking most of my time. I’m now officially out of excuses! |

| Killeroo on RedBubble |
[Jun. 12th, 2008|07:50 am] |
As brilliantly suggested by Jacen Carpenter, I've created a redbubble account and am slowly adding a stack of great Killeroo art there that can be purchased as prints, posters and soon even t-shirts.

Click the pretty pics to go and buy some gorgeous Killeroo prints and stuff!
I'm also committed to repaying the brilliant artists who originally graciously donated their time and effort to create these works, so all purchases will benefit these artists. |

| The eyes have it... |
[Jun. 3rd, 2008|07:04 am] |

More Wayne Nichols goodness. If it were anatomically possible, I would have that man's baby.
In other news, I've just started and finished the first page of a story I'm drawing for Comic Artist Rehab and have started on page 2, and have drawn a panel that I don't completely hate! The script is an oldie submitted to me ages ago by someone named Robin Shortt, and this panel calls for Rufus to be piled into the back of a ute. I don't think the posture is that great insofar as he's meant to have been dumped in there unconscious, but I do like the rendering and shading of it.

Will be posting full progress on Rehab tomorrow. |

| Well, here I am in rehab... |
[Jun. 2nd, 2008|07:54 am] |

Yep, I've been committed. Or rather self-admitted to the care of the Amber Carvan Comic Artist Rehab clinic.
Basically it's the perfect place to get me ready to draw my own story for the new book. Originally I was going to start drawing that actual story for my stint in rehab, but I decided that was putting too much pressure given I haven't drawn a full comic page in... well.. over a decade!
But I've got a couple of scripts that have been submitted to me over the years, so I think I'll dust one of those off and get cracking.
During my stint in rehab I'm joined by Leigh Rigozzi, Nicola Hardy and Kirrily Schell, so come and visit us at the clinic and you might even get to sneak a few of those tasty red pills we're taking here! |

| Killeroo by Ryan 'Azerath' Wilton! |
[May. 26th, 2008|07:10 am] |
Here's a fresh new pinup by Ryan Wilton!

There's even some nice development stage stuff for this piece, from original concept through to full pencils and partial inks.
Ryan is the artist on Azerath, Phosphorescent's only ongoing title that is now up to issue 17! For an australian title to run that many issues on a regular schedule is virtually unheard of, there's even trade paperbacks!
check it out
Thanks Ryan! This is going STRAIGHT to the pool room! |

| The cover for the next Killeroo book? |
[May. 20th, 2008|07:56 am] |
Well Mike Nason is out for the new issue (gotta work on those begging skills), so it looks like I'll be drawing this one all by my lonesome. But you know what, that's cool, cause when you get something like this in your inbox it sends a whole bunch of inspiration right through you.

It's by Brisbane artist Wayne Nichols, whose most recent work was the beautiful Kate Lawson book from phosphorescent (go buy it now, there be pirates aboard, yarr!). This small size really doesn't do the piece justice, there's some really gorgeous texture and detail, check out a larger version at Wayne's DeviantArt page.
But really, what do you say when you get a piece like this. Besides THANKYOU WAYNE! I mean. I'll tell you what, you get off your arse and get drawing, that's what you do.
At this point Wayne's piece is a contender for the cover of the book. Badower wanted the cover, but he's got a helluva job ahead of him to top this! GAME ON Badower!
I'm still looking for pinups, so if anyone reading this is similarly inspired and wants to take a crack at drawing ol' roo boy, drop me a line! |

| Killeroo: Issue 1 - coming late 2008 |
[May. 9th, 2008|07:45 am] |

Jason Badower (HEROES) returns for the new issue, at this point scheduled for the cover and a 12-15 page backup story. Working with Tristan Jones (TMNT) on the script, and planning to beg Mike Nason to help me draw the main story in a kind of breakdowns / finishes kinda style.
With luck will have some preview pages to show at Doujicon in June. |

| Roosistence! |
[Dec. 4th, 2007|08:42 am] |

There's currently a move by the AFL to encourage the North Melbourne Football Club (The Kangaroos) to move to the Gold Coast and they're throwing a lot of money at them to get them to take the bait.
But North Melbourne is a proud club, and a lot of their members are fighting it tooth and nail. To that end, they've created a group called ROOSISTENCE, and there's posters of this guy in most shops around here in North Melbourne.
He looks quite familiar doesn't he! I've often considered approaching the club in regards to some kind of mascot role for Killeroo, if this group gets up and North stays here, it might just be worth a shot!
More info at www.roosistence.com (when their site works). |

| bound for Armageddon |
[Oct. 8th, 2007|08:37 am] |
Sharing a booth with Bobby "Bluetoaster" Nenadovic at the Armageddon convention this coming weekend the 13th & 14th of October 2007.
Will have copies of Killeroo Books #1 and #2 as per usual, as well as a few posters, original art and maybe a preview of Killeroo Issue #1 depending on whether I can get enough stuff organised for it.
Look for me and Bobby snuggled right between the Doctor Who and Star Trek fanclub booths! (wha..?)
And hey, as if you needed another reason, THE FLASH will be there! (also known as Dawson's Dad):
